Please note: we hone, clean  and polish razors. We can also replace loose or broken pivot or base pins but we do not offer a total refurbishment to ‘original condition’ service at this site - though this service is offered on our

Invisible Edge site. We can, however, clean and polish the blade of your razor though any pitting or badly corroded areas can only be de-rusted and polished, not ground out. If you have any questions about your razor and its suitability for restoring to a usable condition please email us prior to sending. Please feel free to attach images (preferably in .jpg format and below 200kB in size).

Please also note that this service is only offered to the UK and EU countries due to Customs restrictions.

Payment terms: UK customers - payment is accepted via the on-site PayPal shopping cart or by personal cheque (no business cheques) or internet banking transfer. If wishing to use either of the ltter two methods please email us for details  prior to sending razors to us.

EU customers - payment via onl-site PayPal shopping cart  only.

Our preferred method is Paypal.  This is a secure and quick payment method and has the advantage for you, the customer, that it is free to use, no account is needed (pay by any recognised debit/credit card) and we do not either see or store your card data. Again, please do email us if you have any queries.

What our customers say -

“Many thanks for sharpening and returning my razors. They both arrived on the weekend and are lovely and sharp. Thank you too for tightening the pin on my ebony Dovo - it's very much appreciated and a testimony to your service.”

Dr. Phillip R., Bristol
“I received the razor this morning, you have done a beautiful job!! I cannot thank you enough for the speed with which you completed it and to polish it as well -it looks like it was made last week- not nearly 80 years ago!! It is good to know that such craftsmanship still exists (after 20 years in the spraying trade I know good work when I see it) I believe in telling someone who has done work of any kind for me when they have done a good job which I feel is something that has been lost on the general public recently. People are quick to complain but slow to praise - not something that I believe in.”

John D, Northern Ireland

“I really can't commend you enough for what you've been able to achieve with the ERN, I wouldn't have believed that it would have come up like that, it's now BRILLIANT, thanks very much.”

Simon J, Worthing

“I forgot to write and tell you how pleased I was with the Le Grelot that you sent a couple of weeks ago. The quality of product and your work in making it shave ready was beyond my expectations. The preparation was so good, in fact, I have no intentions of honing myself at any point and will send to your honing service to be done - I couldn't do as good a job as you! I'm looking forward to receiving the new additions to the rotation as well - I know they'll be at least as good. You can quote me!
Paul H, Lancs.
“Just wanted to say that I received my razor yesterday and overall I have been very impressed with your level of communication and service. I will definitely send my razor to you again and recommend you to anyone who needs theirs sharpened.”

Marc M., Ireland

“What magic have you done to my razor! Only thing is I am now terrified of it. Will definitely send my other blades to you!”

Pete W., Devon

“I've now had the chance to examine my honed Le Grelot. What can I say? It certainly is....er....sharp! And I'm greatly impressed by the condition. To be perfectly honest, I did expect the finish to be a little roughened after the honing process, but it is immaculate! Thank you very much indeed.”
Alan C., London

“Razor arrived yesterday and used this morning. Lovely ! Without doubt the keenest it's every been, and now gives superb shaves. Thanks for doing this, and many many thanks for all your advice.”

Harry N., Timperley

“Just received the Bismarck and immediately had my first shave - wonderful! The razor looks great with its new scales and has been sharpened to perfection! It was a pleasure doing business with you!”

Brendan S., St. Leonards On Sea

“I got the Wapi today, the shave was awesome, no razor burn and silky smooth, much smoother than the shavette. How on earth do you get them that sharp ?, the hairs just wipe off,it has certainly opened my eyes to what is really a Shave Ready razor.”

Lee  M.,  St. Ives

“Many thanks...Dovo Special arrived this morning! Great service (unbelievably sharp edge) and I will be back in the future”.

Jeremy B, Burton-upon-Trent

“I received my Razor yesterday and I can say I am nothing but in awe of it & the finish is superb. I look forward to purchasing my next razor from you when I'm a little more competent. Thanks again .”

Matthew D., Leeds

“I just got the two Dovos in the mail. I've only used one of them, but it was a fantastic shave. I'll be sure to come to you in the future.”

Barry L, Ireland

Many thanks for the quick turnaround - looks great!’

Matt, Redditch Worcs.

‘I got the razor back a few days ago, and have shaved with it three times now. I'd just like to thank you for doing a great job - the razor is as sharp as it could be, and definitely makes a difference to shaving.’

Martin M., Warrington, Cheshire.

“Thanks for doing a grand job on the razor, it shaves like a dream.”

Lyndon T., Newcastle, Tyne & Wear.

“Razor received and is great! I can't believe the difference your honing made to the quality of shave - it was a real pleasure using it.”

Marcus C, Sidcup, Kent

“Just to say that I received the razor yesterday. 10/10 - very quick turn around and it was like new. I am impressed.  A sterling job well done.”

Nathan J., Macclesfield

Just a quick email to say thank you very much for the razor’s you returned to me all nice and reconditioned.

I just had a great shave with the Kobar and all I can say is WOW, what a difference a hone makes! You are a star and a craftsman indeed and for that I thank you and the great service you provide, it made me realise just how much the razors needed a good hone in the first place, now my shaves are even more close than before.

I’ll be spreading the word about your service and adding an article on the two blogs I run both here and in the USA.

Tristan S.,  Surrey

“(My partner) received his razor back this morning -  he is really pleased and has shaved with it already! I wanted to say a big “thank you” for the fantastic service that you have provided. I will definitely be recommending you and using your service in the future.”

Kelly H., Basingstoke

Repinning service

A common problem with old straight razors is one of very loose or broken pins - particularly at the blade pivot. If you have a razor with this problem, we can now rectify it. We now have  replacement scales in stock - if you would like these fitted, just order the scales needed together with the appropriate fee below  (I.e. Repin only).

Please use the tables below for ordering your service. Table 1 is for use when you want to order a re-pin for your razor (using your own scales) at the same time as having honing or polishing work done - it cuts out the postage charges, which of course are included in the honing or cleaning fee.

Table 2 is for use if you only want re-pinning work done - not honing or cleaning. The fee then includes return postage on a similar basis to the honing and cleaning tables above.

Any questions? Just drop us a line. Thanks!

PLEASE NOTE -

If blades are in very poor condition we do reserve the right to apply further costs but that would of course  depend upon your consent.  Stainless blades are higher cost due to being far harder than the more common carbon steel blades used in the vast majority of vintage razors, and do take about 50% longer to hone  than carbon steel. If you are in doubt as to what your blade is made of , send us a photo (preferably of any lettering etc on blade or tang) via email and we will do our best to identify it for you. Please be aware that razors originating in Pakistan and China, or any very cheap razors from any source are unlikely to take - or retain  - a decent shaving edge!!

‘Gold Wash’ - an important note.

Gold wash, as applied to some razors such as the ones seen to the right, is very difficult to clean owing to its highly ‘fugitive’ nature. Gold wash is normally found on the blades (as right) but sometimes - especially on more expensive razors - entire tangs and the spine may well be coated.  Unfortunately, gold wash will disappear almost instantly if any form of abrasive polish is used on it, though normal soap and water is usually fine. We therefore DO NOT remove marks or rust spots from areas of gold wash unless specifically requested, and in the understanding that this will completely remove the gold wash also. If in doubt about this, please do email us before sending.

We now offer a fully bespoke service for your razor - cleaning, polishing to a very high standard and honing to shave-readiness, plus scale replacement in a variety of materials including buffalo horn, camel bone and a variety of exotic hardwoods, plus contrasting wedge spacers and a choice of pins - in fact, a truly made-to order service. We won’t pretend this is cheap but, for the work involved, we think it’s reasonable! This work is undertaken by our sister site The Invisible Edge - for some examples of restored razors just click here!
